If you have a submitted Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program pool, there is an important update you need to know about. As of now, you can edit your WEOI directly in the AAIP portal — without cancelling it, without losing your place in the selection pool, and without paying the $135 fee again.

What is the WEOI and why does this matter?

The WEOI — Worker Expression of Interest— is your expression of interest to the AAIP. It is the form that gets you into the selection pool and earns you a score that determines whether you receive an invitation during one of the regular AAIP draws. The AAIP requires that your WEOI contain true and accurate information at all times. If your job offer changes, your work permit is renewed, your language scores are updated, or any other detail in your profile shifts — your WEOI needs to reflect that. Until now, making changes meant cancelling your existing WEOI and starting over. That reset your position and cost you another fee. The new edit function removes that barrier entirely.

How to edit your WEOI

Log in to the AAIP portal at aaip.labour.alberta.ca and go to the Check Existing WEOI section. Your WEOI must be in Submitted status before you can edit it. Click the Edit button at the bottom of the page,make your changes, and save. Once you save, your WEOI automatically returns to Submitted status and re-enters the selection pool with your updated information.

There are two important timing rules to keep in mind. First,while your WEOI is being edited, its status changes to Edit Submission — and during that time, it is not eligible for selection in any AAIP draw. This means you want to complete your edits promptly and not leave your WEOI sitting in edit mode. Second, if you open the edit function but do not save any changes within one hour, the system will automatically revert your WEOI back to Submitted status with no updates applied.

What about validity?

Editing your WEOI does not reset or extend its validity. WEOIs are valid for one year. For WEOIs created on or after April 7, 2026, that one year runs from the date the fee was paid. For WEOIs created on April 6,2026 or earlier, validity runs from the date of creation. If your WEOI is not selected within 12 months, it will be automatically cancelled and you will need to submit a new one and pay the fee again.

One other thing worth repeating: if you cancel your own WEOI, it cannot be reinstated. Cancellation is permanent. The edit function exists precisely so that you do not need to cancel — use it instead.
