Parent & Grandparent Sponsorship

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). The program opens annually through an IRCC interest to sponsor form, and eligible applicants are selected by lottery. Sponsors must demonstrate sufficient income (meeting the Low Income Cut-Off threshold plus 30%) for the three tax years prior to applying.

The PGP has historically been oversubscribed, making early preparation and income documentation critical. While awaiting a PR pathway, parents and grandparents may be eligible for the Super Visa — a multi-entry visitor visa allowing stays of up to five years at a time, valid for ten years.
