Study at a Canadian institution with the right documentation

A study permit is required for most foreign nationals who wish to pursue academic, vocational, or language training at a Canadian designated learning institution (DLI) for programs longer than six months. Applicants must provide proof of acceptance from a DLI, demonstrate sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses, and satisfy an immigration officer that they will leave Canada upon completion of studies — unless they apply for a post-graduation pathway.

Study permit holders are generally authorized to work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks, provided their program meets the eligibility criteria. Permit renewals must be submitted before the current permit expires to maintain valid status in Canada.
